Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act of 1999

Came into effect November 29th of 1999. Permits satellite TV companies to broadcast local television channels to viewers inside that channels viewing area. It is designed to promote competition between companies by giving satellite and cable companies equal ground.

Telecommunications Act of 1996

Stops home owners associations from prohibiting homeowners from placing satellite dishes on roofs. The dish must be less than 39 inches in diameter. States that they cannot make you request permission to install it or cannot make you remove a dish unless it creates a safety hazard or you are in a historical district.
