Is a phone line required with
satellite internet? No a phone line is not required with most systems.
Some systems require a standard modem connected to a phone line to send
data. Newer satellite internet systems allow the user to both send and
receive data with the dish.
Is satellite internet
reliable? Yes, it is reliable. You may experience interruptions in
service during severe storms however. Chances are that if a storm is bad
enough to interrupt service, you shouldn't be on an electrical device.
Can I use my existing
satellite television dish? No, internet service requires the use of a
different satellite dish.
Can I use satellite internet
on a home network? Yes you can network other computers to your
internet thru the use of a router.
How fast is the internet
connection? The speeds may vary but are typically up to ten
times faster than a dial up modem internet connection.
What is "one way" service?
With "one Way" satellite internet, you receive data with the satellite
dish but need a seperate modem hooked to a phone line to send data.
What is "two way" service?
Two way service means that you can both send and receive data thru
your satellite dish. This means that you do not have to have a second
phone line to send data.
Where can I get satellite
internet? Satellite internet is available anywhere that you have a
clear view of the southern sky.
Can I install the satellite
internet system myself? If you are interested in a "one way" system
you can install it yourself. "Two way" systems need to be professionally
installed however due to FCC restrictions.
